VAN KUREN CHAPTER OFFICER,

and CHAIRPERSON MEETING MINUTES

30 April 1999

Attendees: Kent Bierley, Raelynn Bryan, Brenda Cooper, Billye Geisinger, Darlene Routhier, Bill Bartlett
  1. President: Raelynn received information about the Kings Island Fundraiser and will send the information out. If CMC 2000 is held in Dayton, our chapter will be asked to help which may require more than volunteer work, and possibly a semi-host position. Overdue suspenses: trip report - Kent, notes from Dr. Van Kuren meeting - Bill, Commander's meeting - Bill. Our next meeting will be 17 May 99 at 1000.

  2. Executive Vice President: Stu Cart is working an article for the NMA magazine. Billye and Larry Benson are doing research to get NMA classes paid for by NAIC.

  3. Professional Development: The SMS class will begin 11 May 99 while the AMS class will begin 10 May 99. The CMP is currently at a standstill.

  4. Vice President of Administration: We need to start working on the membership drive so we will be ready to push it during management week. Shirley Harris is retiring 3 Jun 99 and will receive a lifetime membership.

  5. Awards and Recognition Committee: Raelynn talked to Capt Ashby about having a permanent plaque placed in the hall for the Chapter NMA Manager of the Year Award. Requests for Manager of the Year nominations will be sent to members next week. If Raelynn receives no input by 14 May 99, then a building wide nomination request will be sent. There has also been discussion about the board members selecting the winner. Kent has made his way through the month of January for the R-1 files. The only nominations sent into headquarters was for the Member of the Year.

  6. Program Committee: Billye was considering the CMP for May but needs a second program. She wants to check the R-1 to see what squares haven't been filled for an additional program in May. The banquet will be 11 Jun 99 at Roush's. There has been some discussion regarding an open house for management week. The program would feature Mr Benson, Mr. Setchell and Mr Bailey.

  7. American Enterprise Committee: The chapter may be able to do a shoebox program in July like we did in December. The winner of the Buckeye Council and Northeast Regional speech contest was Rapp Cook from Lima Academy. Rapp will present his speech at National in October. Raelynn still needs ideas for the display case and open house. Kent is getting the requests for proclamations for Management week sent out to the various communities. Management week is 7-12 Jun 99 and the group needs to start thinking of ideas for that week.

  8. Public Relations: Raelynn wants the newsletter out by 12 May 99 with or without inputs. Kent has added some new sections to the web page so he recommended that each of us take a look.

  9. Board Meeting News: Follow-up of the 28 Jan 99 meeting with the commander is currently on hold. Bill will discuss officer elections with the board. It was felt that the next president should be from management in order to give the group higher visibility and perhaps a little more influence. Mr. Setchell was asked if he would be willing to consider the position. Another possible candidate might be Gary O'Connell.

  10. Buckeye Council Report: The councils June meeting will be with the recipient of the Golden Knight. Elections were held as planned and resulted in no changes to the council.

  11. Open Discussion: Don't forget about the blood drive on 4 May 99. An article about the speech contest was published in the 2 Apr 99 Skywrighter.

  12. Adjournment
