VAN KUREN CHAPTER OFFICER,

and CHAIRPERSON MEETING MINUTES

8 March 1999

Attendees: Raelynn Bryan, Billye Geisinger, Kent Bierley; Board Members: Bill Bartlett
  1. Received Constitution Approval/Waiver Request from 88 ABW/CC. Thanks to Billye for her efforts.

  2. Wright Chapter Conf - Unfortunately, Raelynn was unable to attend due to training office losing the paperwork. We were also unable to get Gen Herrelko with Col Annas. Word is that we missed a fantastic conference; Wright Chapter is considering having Dave Leedy come back and do another session at a later time.

  3. Professional Development - Class is progressing very well. Getting ready to schedule the next class "Communication Skills"; No word yet as to when AMS or CMO will begin.

  4. Kent will be working on getting the back R-1's to Nancy Rice by 22 Mar 99.

  5. Raelynn would like officers to begin working on the 1999 Exec of the Year, Hall of Fame, Member of the Year and Publication Contest nominations. Individuals suggested for the above awards are Larry Benson - Exec of the Year, Dr Van Kuren - Hall of Fame and Bill Bartlett - Member of the Year. All nominations need to be to Raelynn by 1 Apr in time for review before 15 Apr. Also, suggested sending the information to membership for their input.

  6. Manager of the Year - Billye has been in touch with Capt Ashby regarding having the Manager of Year Plaque permanently display in the hallway. Capt Ashby is looking in to it and will get back with us. Great idea Billye!!!!!! Also, Raelynn would like the Manager of the Year nomination package to the membership and building by the first of May.

  7. Due to unavailability of auditorium, we are having trouble getting a room for our monthly meetings. Billye will try to get E202 and have Betsy Witt do a continuation of her program on Mentoring. Looking at 25 Mar as an available date.

  8. American Enterprise:

    • Operation Christmas Child.- received information regarding this program. We are thinking about changing our contribution from Christmas to July due to the conflict with CFC and the Angel Tree. We will discuss this further at next month's meeting.

    • Speech Contest - Kent reported as of today there are 2 participants from Vandalia and Hamilton with a possibility of 2 more from within NAIC. Kent needs volunteers for the contest and will be notifying Wright and Van Kuren Chapters as to how many he will need. He reminded us that the winner would proceed to Buckeye Council Meeting on 25 Mar in Lima. Kent has been in touch with Mr Landis, debate teacher from Fairmont High School in Kettering regarding lack of participation in the speech contest. It appears that when we have our contest, the schools are already involved in many other contests. Mr Landis will keep in touch with Kent regarding next years debate dates and the two chapters will schedule next years contest so it does not conflict. Mr Landis will be sending the information from the Ohio High School Speech League sometime in May. He also will be speaking to Beavercreek/Fairborn Optimist Club and getting additional guidance from them.

  9. Web Page has been updated.

  10. Kent announced that the Beavercreek TV station will have Futler Hong's speech on. He will let us know the time and dates. Publicity for the Speech Contest has been outstanding. Keep up the great work Kent!!!!!!!

  11. Financial report is attached.

  12. Adjournment
