VAN KUREN CHAPTER OFFICER,
and CHAIRPERSON MEETING MINUTES
17 November 1998
Attendees: Raelynn Bryan, Brenda Cooper,
Billye Geisinger, Darlene Routhier,
Kent Bierley, Nancy Burns
- Chapter President Comments:
- Recognition of Chapter Events: The Van Kuren Chapter is on the schedule for the
18 November 1998, Commander's Staff Meeting. The Local Manager of the Year, Mr Weddle, will be presented his recognition plaque by the NAIC
Commander, Col Annas. Additionally, our Chapter will be presented the Excellent Award earned from HQ NMA for the past year's efforts.
- Trip Reports: All NMA Chapter attendees to Regional and National events are now required to present a trip report, hardcopy and oral. This is required so
the chapter can continue receiving funding for those events from NAIC.
- Raelynn will be on leave from 21 December 1998 through the end of the year.
- Officer Meeting Dates: Raelynn wants a set date for officer?s meeting. The past year the prescheduled day of the month has been a problem. She asked
that all officer?s and chairpersons send her their preferences and we try again to set up an regularly scheduled time so all can attend (there are always
exceptions).
- Executive Vice President Comments:
- The paperwork has been completed and submitted to 88SPTG for acceptance. We have not heard or receipt or acceptance at this time.
- Professional Development:
- Supervisory Management Skills Program: Classes will begin in January 1999. Nancy will be sending out an announcement regarding classes and soliciting
participants.
- Advanced Management Studies: Nancy will be sending out an announcement to research requirements. Does NAIC have interested parties to necessitate
beginning classes?
- Nancy and Raelynn have many facilitators willing and standing by. For additional facilitators, Nancy may contact the membership for nominations.
- Certified Manager Program: The Chapter still has members ready to begin class to prepare for the test. Mr Bartlett is arranging times and material.
- Membership:
- Annual dues have been collected and turned into HQ. A few of the members are still delinquent. We now have 21 paid members and 14 lifetime members.
- Awards and Recognition:
- Chapter is looking for a volunteer to assume the duties of Chairperson, Awards and Recognition Committee which was recently vacated by Mr Joe Horine.
Mr Horine is to be commended for the excellent work he performed for the Chapter during his years as the Awards and Recognition Chairperson.
- Planning must begin for any National Awards submitted by the Chapter in FY1999. HQ deadlines are 15 Apr 99 and 1 May 99 (for the publication
nomination).
- The Chapter has agreed to nominate Dr Van Kuren for the "Hall of Fame". Need to begin paperwork. (Note: Raelynn suggested the Chapter nominate Dr
Van Kuren for the National Air Intelligence Center (NAIC) "Watson Award". All officers seconded the nomination.)
- The monthly submission of the R-1 to HQ for Chapter activities is behind. Raelynn will get with Mr Horine to get this paperwork requirement up-to-date.
- Programs:
- Creating the Future Organization (CTFO) workshops. Raelynn asked what the status was and would like NAIC to have some kind of status report. Billye
explained that Stu Cart was writting a report - she does not know when it will be completed.
- December Program is to be the National Convention given by Kent Bierley. This was arranged between Raelynn and Kent. Rae also suggested that each
member bring a snack to share as a Christmas celebration.
- Future Program: Raelynn would like the NAIC Commander scheduled for a brief presentation. Discussion was presented on this would be presumptuous until
the Reinventing NMA committee presents the Chapter briefing on who we are and what we do to the Commander.
- American Enterprise Committee:
- The Operation Christmas Child "Shoebox Gifts" Committee has obtained a video of last year's gift distribution. It has been reviewed in the FDO office by a
few Chapter members--very touching.
- Salvation Army: The Chapter will be setting a date, time, and place for the Chapter's annual participation in "Ring the Salvation Army Bell on Saturday". We
are looking for volunteers to participate in this worthwhile activity.
- Other Charities: Any member may suggest an activity.
- Speech Contest: Kent sent out over 50 publicity releases. The NAIC publicity spokesperson, Mr Young, will be contacted to see about publication in the
Air Intelligence Agency "Spokesman".
- 1999 Speech Contest: The site for the contest needs to be changed as the Dayton Public Library will be under a remodeling project. Raelynn has two
locations she nominates for the site of this contest. She will check upon their availability. Kent has other locations he will solicit for possibilities. Kent will notify
NMA HQ by the 1 Dec 98 deadline of Chapter intentions to participate.
- Public Relations:
- Brenda Cooper will have a December publication of the Chapter Newsletter.
- Publicity information on the Chapter Manager of the Year is ready for submission.
- The Web Page has been updated with a current date of 6 Nov 98. It was disseminated to the internet. Be alerted that the local ISP is changing hands;
therefore, a fee may be charged for this service. More info to come.
- Fund Raisers:
- Raelynn did not find out about the box loading that was previously discussed. The Holidays are fast approaching and everyone will be too
busy; shelve this item until Spring.
- Board Meeting News:
- There has been no news from the Board of Directors. There has been no news of a scheduled time for the Reinvent NMA briefing to be presented to the
NAIC Commander.
- Financial Report:
- Raelynn asked the officers if they were interested in receiving new NMA pocket calendars and if so how many should be purchased. The officers voted on
buying 15 1999 NMA Calendars that would be passed out to officer?s, board members, executive advisors, and the NAIC CC. Any extras would be used for
new members.
- Full financial disclosure report was provided for each of the officers on line.
- Kent has cleared up all outstanding expenses on the SMS and AMS classes.
- Budget needs to be prepared and submitted for NAIC approval. This will forecast all anticipated events, i.e., Hope Hotel Conf, Regional Conf, National

Omar/Wright Chapter to make reservations. Social is 6:00-6:30PM and Business Meal 6:30-9:00PM.
- Open Discussion:
- Raelynn invites all officer's and chairpeople to familiarize themselves with the NMA Code of Ethics for Management and Statement of Principles. She won't
go into specifics but recognizes that we need to work as a team.
