VAN KUREN CHAPTER OFFICER, CHAIRPERSON,

and EXECUTIVE ADVISOR MEETING MINUTES

18 October 1997

Attendance: Billye Geisinger, Raelynn Bryan, Bill Bartlett, Kent Bierley, Joe Horine, Joe Horine

  1. National Convention was a success and inspiration. The Speech Contest was awesome - those kids are remarkable and I am certainly glad I didn't have to select the winner!! The chapter was presented an "Excellent" rating certificate. I finally met Sue Allen, Wright Chapter President and we discussed some common issues and hopefully the two chapters will be interacting more frequently in the future (I offered our assistance for their next mini-conference). Also met shortly with Steve Bailey regarding a tour of the HQ's. Two out of the four sessions were great and they were audio taped for anyone interested. I also brought back any brochures that were at the sessions. The overall Convention was great and inspiring. great networking opportunity with other NMA organizations nation-wide. Hopefully we will be able to send more than one person next year since it will be in Cincinnati, Ohio. It really is a great place to experience all of NMA.
  2. Need to get working on the Certified Managers Program - there is an extremely interested person, who also is a new member, that wants to get started. Bill bartlett will begin working on this.
  3. Still awaiting the zip kits from Nancy Rice for the Officers & Committees.
  4. An plaque will be given to Col Wolfe at his upcoming retirement for his participation in the SMS classes. Raelynn has already asked him if he will continue to facilitate once he has retired and he agreed.
  5. Dr. Dollar will be retiring on 31 Oct and since he was one of our chapters best supporters - giving the new CC's an uderstanding of NMA, facilitating when needed, issuing new challenges and helping the chapter on its way, keeping NMA alive within the organization, one of the founding fathers, Silver Knight winner- we will give him a special memnto of what he means to the Van Kuren Chapter.
  6. Upcoming programs are for Oct - Strategic Planning During the 21st Century; Nov - DIA relationship to NAIC (Larry Benson), and Dec will probably be a Christmas party for the chapter. Creating the Future Organization is still going strong.
  7. Operation Shoe Box information is in but because of the Combined Federal Campaign, we will not be able to get the information circulated until CFC has finished (14 Nov 97). Other activities are Habitat for Humanity (2nd Sat of each month), Angel Tree, Blood Drive (8 Dec 97) and Salvation Army Bell Ringing.
  8. Speech Contest - the information for the Speech Contest has been received and information will be sent to news media (radio, TV, newspapers) as well as each officer/committee member taking it to their respective PTA's.
  9. The Web page will be updated with the latest information on Membership List Update, Organizational Update and Officer Updates.
  10. Board is working on goals and objectives. Larry Orcutt has agreed to mail out the Newsletter internally and externally.
  11. Financial Report: Our finances are dwindling and we need to work on this for operating costs.
  12. Buckeye Council will be in Columbus with a possible tour of the Columbus Power Station. More information to come on that.
  13. Miscellaneous: Kent Bierley heard that there was a new chapter being set up by the Wright Chapter at Miami Jacoabs. Going to check this out.
