Attendees: Billye Geisinger Joe Horine
Raelynn Bryan Wanda Echols
Bill Bartlett Aurea Rivera (Ex Advisor)
Nancy Burns Larry Benson (Ex Advisor)
OLD AND NEW BUSINESS
- The Chapter Officers & Chairpersons met at 1400 on Tuesday, 18 Feb, 1997.
- Executive Advisor Comments/Suggestions:
- Larry Benson will see if anything can be done so access can be gained
to the NAIC Commander. As it stands, everything is going through the Executive
Officer. Billye requested an appointment on 30 Jan 97 and still nothing has
happened.
- President's Report:
- The Monthly Program for February has ran into a glitch. Wright State
decided not to do it. Due to the efforts of Bill Bartlett, if we get CC
approval, we will be sponsoring a program on "Your Own Business" by Bill
Birkholtz
- Reminder of the Wright Chapter Conference at the Hope Hotel 13-14
March 1997. If anyone has not received the information through their 2ltr,
stop by and Billye will provide a package.
- Vice-President's Report:
- A number of items were reviewed as possible moneymaking projects.
- The Chapter is aware of the regulations stifling sales of items within
NAIC.
- Suggestions were made for fundraisers outside the building such as the
Area B "4th of July Festival". Possibly other festivals around the community,
golf tournaments, twin base activities.
- If we are interested in a booth at the air show, we need to contact
Jane Rodenroth. This year the air show and NAECON will be combined so the
event will be bigger and better than ever.
- Need to contact MWR. They can provide a list of what
organizations/councils have historically set a precedent for selling.
- For food sales, the items must be purchased through the base supplier.
- An idea to check is what other NMA groups do to raise money for their
Chapters. The Wright Chapter of NMA hosts an annual Management Conference.
- Professional Development:
- Nancy Burns is working to consolidate a guide/catalogue of up NMA
sponsored courses past and upcoming for the 1996-1997 NMA fiscal year.
- Awards and Recognition:
- Joe Horine gave an update on how our Chapter has been performing
compared to HQ expectations. Overall, we are doing well and have an
opportunity to win a Superior award from HQ this year, if we continue and also
work on some areas we are lacking.
- American Enterprise - According to HQ, the Van Kuren Chapter has only
received 3 points. This was news to Billye, who thought we were doing quite
well in the American Enterprise area. Billye and Kent Bierley (American
Enterprise Chairperson) had discussed this and Kent was working our activities
directly with HQ permission. Because of the NAIC Corporate Citizenship Team
which directs all NAIC civic activities, Kent had discussed with HQ the
possibility of the Van Kuren Chapter receiving points for participating in
organization events. On many of the items we turned into HQ this fall and
winter, HQ had approved giving points prior to the actual participation. Kent
was not at this meeting. Billye discussed the problem with Kent by telecon and
Kent or both of them will be going to HQ to work with Nancy Rice to get this
straightened out.
- We need to make sure our Goals and Objectives are up-to-date and get
this sent into HQ. The Board had been working this issue.
- We need a budget outline from the Committees sent to HQ. Billye will
take care of this. A copy of past budgets have been requested from the
previous President.
- We have a 15 April 1997 suspense on the National Level Award
Submission. This includes Member-of-the-Year, Executive-of-the-Year,
and Hall of Fame. For more information, contact Joe Horine.
- Publicity:
- Wanda Echols has the newsletter draft passed out for review by the
officers. As soon as we get the first paper published (any time now), Wanda is
ready to begin the next issue--everything is setup and operational. This means
Wanda will need articles from NMA members by the 15th of every month.
- Wanda is also running the Name Our Newsletter Campaign. She has
collected the submitted suggestions and these will be sent to the members for a
vote as soon as she gets the NMA alias on line.
- Wanda is looking for suggestions for new ideas and or improvements.
- Financial Report:
- Bill Bartlett reports that we still have some money, however, if we
continue as we have, within a few years we will be broke (thus, moneymaking
projects are more important than ever).
- The Chapter had received a letter from HQ indicating that we were
delinquent on our payments--Bill has spoken to HQ and everything is up-to-date.
- Buckeye Council:
- Per Bill Bartlett, the Buckeye Council meeting for 13 Feb had to be
delayed to 20 Feb due to inclement weather.
- The Speech Contest is at the Chapter level will be on 15 Mar 97, Sat,
in the Downtown Dayton Library. The Buckeye Council Speech Contest is
scheduled for 20 Mar in Lima, OH.
- American Enterprise:
- Kent Bierley was unable to attend due to his office move. However, he
will send out an update of American Enterprise activities to the Chapter as
soon as possible. He did mention few at the February Board of Director's
meeting (see the Board Minutes for more information).
- ent and Billye did meet and they will ensure that the next Chapter
Newsletter contains an update on American Enterprise activities (this is a HQ
item for Chapter points).
- Meeting adjouned at 1500 hours.
