AREA
DESCRIPTION
AND
HABITAT

Taylorsville is another large park (1300 acres), originally created for flood control, that combines excellent outdoor recreational opportunities and birdwatching. Types of habitats include riparian forest along the Great Miami River, upland forest, several evergreen groves, as well as spectacular wooded ravines. The park also contains segments of the Buckeye Trail, the 1200-mile loop trail that completely encircles the state of Ohio. Some remnants still remain of the Miami-Erie Canal that once passed through the area.
SPECIES
FOUND

With several types of habitats present, both riparian and upland forest birds nest at Taylorsville MetroPark. The woods present is extensive enough to support both Kentucky and Hooded Warblers. Long-eared and Northern Saw-whet Owls may sometimes be found in winter in the evergreen trees.
