Rare Bird Alert

The highlight of this report is:

  • The onset of migration of warblers and other species.

Seen today at Englewood MetroPark were first of the season Black-and-white and Hooded Warbler and American Redstart; Red-eyed and Philadelphia Vireo, Baltimore Oriole, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Eastern Towhee; Field and Chipping Sparrow, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow-billed Cuckoo. Carolina Wren, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and Downy Woodpecker.
 

Observed at Caesar Creek State Park beach today were Caspian and Forster's Tern.
 

Seen at Englewood MetroPark on August 22nd were Wood Duck, Red-tailed Hawk, Pileated Woodpecker, Barn Swallow and Blue Jay.
 

At that same location on August 20th seen were Great Egret; Least, Semipalmated, Pectoral, Solitary, and Spotted Sandpiper; Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs; Green Heron, Wood Duck; Northern Rough-winged and Barn Swallow.

 

A Broad-winged hawk was observed at Englewood MetroPark August 18th.
